English Army mascot Sandbag was only recently returned to England to take leave from his chief responsibilities in the Middle East. After becoming a great source of support for the troops the lovable pup is currently relishing a well won breather - so what is life like for a diligent canine, and what is coming up for them in retirement? Despite this when it was time the troops departed from the southern port earlier this year, the guys had to abandon Sandbag in Iraq, & there were great concerns among the troops who had taken him into their hearts. The guys were worried that if he was left to shelter himself their four-legged friend would be executed by Iraqis, who hold little account for roving dogs. But thanks to fund-raising activity, on Facebook amongst other places, the Blue Cross raised more than £13,500 within just two months, empowering them to escort Sandbag to the UK.

Deputy dog Sandbag is not the only mutt to be given the recognition he rightly earned for his highly comforting contributions. Dogs should furthermore prove a considerable asset in law enforcement procedure. The guys save exceptional time hunting for displaced individuals, drugs and contraband. Careful training means that police force mutts might not uncover any feasibly terrible material but rather reveal wherein it is likely to be to his human companion.

As repayment for all their hard work law enforcement mutts within Cambridgeshire only recently were amongst the first in the UK to gain the correct pension merited after their time off. Before dogs in active duty for the Cambridgeshire armed forces retired as they got older, around that time the dog’s human companion would sign an agreement evidencing that he would have to assume responsibility for the mutt for the remainder of it’s life. This new programme means that retired dogs will now have their food, vets bills and kennelling all paid for by the police force.

So thank goodness that there are understanding people out there willing to provide well-deserved relief & support for our four-legged friends when they are put out to pasture.
