Hayling island is an island off the south coast of england, in the borough of havant in the county of hampshire. It is twinned with gorron, mayenne, france. A single bridge connects its northern end to the mainland of great britain. A tiny passenger ferry connects it to the neighbouring island of portsea in which the city of portsmouth is situated. To the west is langstone harbour and towards east is chichester harbour. The beach at hayling is sandy and until recent years it had been manually filled up with gravel and pebbles to lower seashore erosion. At low tide, the west winnner sandbank is seen, extending a mile out to sea. The coastline in this spot has substantially transformed because roman times, it’s believed very much land have been lost from the sandy coasts of hayling and selsey by erosion.Hayling island is an astounding place to kitesurf. The reason for needing to be a paid up member is one of insurance but also because the beach at the western most end of hayling seafront is actually owned by the golf course. Hayling island is a true island accessed from the north by the hayling bridge and from the west by the hayling passenger ferry that also accepts pedal cycles. The town of hayling island contains the villages of east and west hayling and lies within the portsmouth and se hampsire area and is under havant borough council. Hayling island offers oustanding “blue flag” awarded beaches in a natural environment with extensive flora and fauna and it is a delightful place to relax and unwind. However, it is just a short ferry ride away from southea to the west. Windsurfing, tourism and leisure activities are hayling’s principal assets with tourism generating £50 million of income to the borough over a good summer. The hayling billy trail along the west of the island is one of the attractive routes enjoyed by walkers and cyclists. There are 100 acreas of grassy dunes and gorse providing an ideal location for picnics between the sea front road in the south and the beaches. This area inclues areas of special scientific interest.
